Screenshot trading journal

The screenshot trading journal for chart traders.

Most journals start from a broker import. EdgeBook starts from the chart screenshot you already took: drop it in or paste it, and it becomes a trade you can tag, grade, mark up, and find again in seconds.

EdgeBook Trades page: chart screenshots laid out as trade cards, each showing the symbol, direction, result, rating, review status, and tags
01 Why screenshots

The chart is the record.

A row of fills tells you what you did. The chart shows why you did it.

Where price sat against the level, how the base looked, what volume did in the bars before your entry: that context is what you need when you review a trade three weeks later, and it is the first thing a spreadsheet loses.

Most discretionary traders already screenshot their charts. The trouble is where the images end up: a desktop folder named by timestamp, a Discord channel, a camera roll. Nobody opens them again, so the pattern in them never gets learned.

A screenshot trading journal turns each image into a trade record you can search and review. EdgeBook is built that way from the first click. You can start without linking a broker, and nothing waits on an import.

02 The workflow

From screenshot to reviewed trade.

Capture, tag, mark up, review, share. Each step happens on the chart itself.

Drop or paste the chart

Drag a screenshot from TradingView or your broker onto the Trades page and EdgeBook opens a new trade with it attached. Or click New trade and paste it with ⌘V (Ctrl+V on Windows). JPEG, PNG, WebP, and GIF, up to 5MB per image.

Let it read the chart

On a new trade, the AI chart reader looks at the first screenshot and fills in the symbol, direction, timeframe, and date when those fields are empty. Each value it fills is marked so you can check it. It uses a small amount of your monthly EdgeBook AI allowance.

Tag the setup, grade the execution

Seven built-in tag groups plus your own. Link the trade to the setup you traded, rate the execution from one to five stars, and write the note in a rich-text editor that saves as you type.

Mark up the screenshot

Arrows, lines, boxes, ellipses, highlights, text, callouts, and freehand drawing, directly on the image. Annotations stay editable, so you can fix a label later.

Review on a board

Move trades through Draft, Ready for Review, In Review, and Reviewed, or add your own stages. Switch between cards, a table, and the board.

Share it for feedback

Send one link per trade. Anyone with the link can view it, signed-in viewers can comment, the chart unfurls in Discord, Slack, and X, and you can disable the link at any time.

03 Search and storage

Every screenshot, one search away.

A screenshot journal only pays off if you can find the chart when you need it.

Search trade titles, notes, and symbols. Filter by status, result, direction, timeframe, rating, date range, tag, symbol, and setup. Save any combination as a view and it stays in the sidebar, one click away.

A question like “every Pre-Market breakout I tagged Chased” becomes a filter you can save and come back to.

04 How to

How to journal trades with screenshots.

A few minutes per trade, plus one review a week. The routine works in any journal. Here is how each step maps to EdgeBook.

  1. Screenshot at the decision points

Take one at entry and one at exit, plus the higher timeframe if it shaped the trade. Leave your levels and indicators on the chart so the image shows what you saw at the time.

  2. Drop it in right after the trade

Drag the screenshot onto the Trades page, or click New trade and paste it. Add the entry, exit, and stop while the fill is fresh, and EdgeBook calculates the R multiple from them.

  3. Tag the setup and the mistakes

Link the trade to its setup, then tag what was true: market structure, session, entry and exit quality. Be honest in the Mistakes group. It is the one you will search most.

  4. Write the note before you forget

Two or three lines: why you took it, what you expected, what happened. Rate the execution from one to five stars, separately from whether the trade won.

  5. Mark up the chart

Box the base, draw the level, and put an arrow on the trigger bar. A few marks are enough for future you to read the trade at a glance.

  6. Review once a week

Open the trades waiting in Ready for Review, look at each chart again, and move it to Reviewed with one line on what you'd repeat or change. Save a view for the pattern you are working on.

05 Who it's for

For traders who think in charts.

EdgeBook works with screenshots of stocks, options, futures, and crypto charts from TradingView or any broker platform. If your process already includes a screenshot, the journal fits around it.

If you never look at charts and only review a broker's P&L report, a journal built on fill imports will suit you better.

  • Day traders who screenshot the 1-minute and 5-minute charts during the session and want them sorted by setup by the close.
  • Swing traders who mark up daily charts and want to put this breakout next to the last ten.
  • Futures traders who trade the same few contracts and need to tell one /ES setup from another.
  • Traders with a mentor or a group who want feedback on the actual chart, in one link.
06 Questions

Screenshot journaling, answered.

More on the main FAQ, or email Alex.

What is a screenshot trading journal?

A trading journal that uses the chart screenshot as the main record of each trade. You attach the image, then add the symbol, direction, setup, tags, rating, and notes around it, so every review starts from the chart you saw instead of a row of numbers. EdgeBook is built this way.

How do I add a screenshot to EdgeBook?

Drag the image onto the Trades page and EdgeBook opens a new trade with it attached. You can also click New trade and paste a screenshot from your clipboard, or paste onto a trade that is already open to add another image. JPEG, PNG, WebP, and GIF files up to 5MB each are accepted.

Does EdgeBook work with TradingView?

Yes, through screenshots. Copy or download the chart image in TradingView, then paste or drop it into EdgeBook. EdgeBook does not connect to your TradingView account, and the app itself does not import TradingView snapshot links. If you connect an AI app through the EdgeBook MCP server, the agent can attach a TradingView snapshot link to a trade for you.

Can EdgeBook fill in the trade details from the chart?

Partly. When you start a new trade from a screenshot, the AI chart reader reads the first image and fills in the symbol, direction, timeframe, and date if those fields are empty. It reads JPEG, PNG, and WebP images, marks each value it filled so you can check it, and uses a small amount of the monthly EdgeBook AI allowance included in every plan. Prices, setup, and result stay yours to enter.

Can I draw on my screenshots?

Yes. The annotation editor works on the uploaded image and has arrows, lines, boxes, ellipses, highlights, text, callouts, and freehand drawing. Annotations stay editable after you save, so you can move or relabel them later.

How much screenshot storage do I get?

Every plan includes 5GB of chart storage, and each image can be up to 5MB. Settings shows how much of it you have used.

Do I need to connect my broker?

No. EdgeBook starts from the chart, so you can journal without linking a broker. You enter the prices you want to track. With entry, exit, and stop prices EdgeBook calculates the R multiple, and with a quantity it also calculates P&L.

Can I share a trade with my mentor?

Yes. Each trade can have its own share link. Anyone with the link can view the trade, signed-in viewers can comment, and the chart unfurls when you post the link in Discord, Slack, or X. You can disable or delete the link at any time.

Your screenshots are already half a journal.
